What happens if we win, and microsoft goes dies a firey death? Well I guess there are a few obvious things:

Or will they? Oh no, it just dawned on me, if MS wasn't there, who would take care of the 99% of the population who doesn't care to learn computers. Those who have trouble with point and click, let alone "Save this file to your floppy drive". I sure don't want to deal with it.

The real trouble is that one computer system doesn't suite all. Development enviroments are much different to user environments. In Dev. you need flexibility, you need to be able to go in and poke around and really see what is going on. In a User env, you don't want that, you don't want the user messing with all the settings and making it impossible to cater for all the possibilities.

So you may ask: What do I want?

I'm more than happy with the current UNIX env. I would like the price to come down and a few more people to develop Cool Stuff(tm) for unix boxes (this is happening for free now with all the java stuff - love that). On the PC side, I would like to see a cleaner enviroment and better design. What this means is many of the feature of UNIX being moved over. Eg Process handling, users, networking, file system (very important) and [I'm sure there's more - yeah debugging ].

Alright, hands up anyone who has ever tried to debug something on windows. Pretty painful huh? [unfinished]
